essence.

'that is the secret of happiness and virtue--liking what you've got to do. All conditioning aims at that: making people like their unescapable social destiny.'

'happiness has got to be paid for'.

-taken from Brave New World by Aldous Huxley

that's my literature read for english lit in STPM. Tough undeniably, but my eyes were immediately opened to the horizons of the lit world, how to read between the lines and to not take everything literally, but figuratively.

one of the choices of my uni courses were TESL and linguistics(english). These two require a written test and an interview!! Must start reading and writing from now just in-case.

tata fellow readers! The weekend is approaching, time to take off your socks and dip your feet in ice cold water.

Roses

I saw a video posted on my friend's wall(yvonne ng) and at once, nostalgically I felt a certain 'something' rushing through my veins. I don't know how to describe that, but let's say you JUST heard a song that goes way back in 2008, like maybe Nickelback's 'Hero', you get that nostalgic sensation right??

And what song you might wonder that caused me to feel that way?
ta-da! 'Roses' by Outcast.

Cover by The Maine.

Honestly I have not heard this song in a LONG time, so to hear it again was just...really nice and cool. Then it made me wanted to play this song on the piano :) For those of you who heard the original version by Outkast, it started off with some bluesy, syncopated-timing tunes on the piano, like this below:

Sorry if this vid doesn't sound very clear, but this guy played it the correct syncopated-timing whereas other vids their timing is like everywhere, lintang-pukang. tsk tsk.

Have you heard it? Quite tricky to play this by ear right?

I had to listen to it over and over and over again and play on the piano thousands of times--until I think my neighbours are annoyed (sorry!)--to FINALLY PLAY IT WITHOUT MISTAKES, like the vid above.

The satisfaction I got was just...priceless. It was a very good feeling, like I've scaled Mount Everest or something. I also got to test my hearing abilities and see whether I'm up to par or not :P Maybe u should try it too! See whether you can do it.

Conclusion: So that's why I like playing the piano by ear. Ka-ching*

I'm happy.

Hi.

Goodie morning. :)

Yesterday was a productive easter practice. We're doing hand mimes this yr (with UV lights) and phew we managed to do the 1st verse and chorus of At The Cross.

We're so near to conquering the whole song. :P

My neighbour on my right is doing some major drilling and I CANT STAND IT. On the verge of insanity!!!! So. Very. LOUD!!! at 8am in the morning! Who does drilling at that time, waking up the whole neighbourhood?? wth. Ugh. I am annoyed.

*I need to be bold.

fredo.

Hello. there.

I think Gnarls Barkley looks like Ceelo Green. :)

When I was just staring blankly at the telly a light bulb lit up in my head, and out popped these words: Gnarls Barkley, Crazy. It was like a jolt, a realization of something, but I don't know what.

Tried getting the code for the official video but can't. Please listen to it if you haven't.

this song is unique, like there's a special essence to it, unlike the usual mainstream music. Very...queer, eccentric, a lil' bluesy.

But I still like John Mayer for his impeccable bluesy-jazzy skills.

so fly.

do re mi, mi fa so.
la ti do.

I wish to own a grand piano when I'm older. The average price of a normal, not grand, piano is about RM17,000. I kid you not! Or maybe at least RM10,000 (this does not include secondhand pianos)

So you can imagine how much a grand piano costs. But it's not impossible! My dream of owning a grand piano is attainable for sure.

*picture from Google*
would you just look at that sleek, handsome, tuxedo-inspired grand piano?
i want it! Somebody please be a kind soul and buy me this for my 21st birthday :)

Imagine the melodious sound this fly thing can churn out. Thinking about it gives me goose bumps! Fellow pianists, unite :)

I am a sloth! Couldn't agree better. Oh I think they also forgot about complacency and procrastination.

Try it and see for yourself. :)

When I was in church this morning for Senior Citizens Fellowship (to play piano, not as a member--not yet, anyway),I was chatting with one very old but wise lady. All of a sudden I felt something tweaked my heart.....she(and all of them) reminded me of my late gramma. :')

Ah well. It was truly wonderful to provide music for them to sing, and to see them coming (room was filled to the brim) despite their age/difficulty walking, they still made an effort to come. Not even age can hinder them from gathering together. And with that I was encouraged today.

I like talking to them too! =) Nice folks.
